Festival of lights (around December 8th)
An internationally acclaimed event which attracts over 4 million visitors to see light shows and installations all over the city, ranging from the most spectacular performances to the most intimate creations, by lighting designers, artists, landscapers, video artists, designers and architects. The event was awarded the trophy for “Best Public Event” at the Heavent Sud festival in Cannes in 2007.
Lighting Master Plan
In 1989, Lyon was the first city in the world to implement a Public Master Plan to enhance the ways, the buildings and monuments of Lyon. Artistic lighting designs showcase more than 200 monuments and public spaces around Lyon: City Hall, Hôtel Dieu, the universities, bridges, banks of the Rhone, Gerland Park, etc. In 2007, Lyon updated its plan, with the ambition to open way for even more creativity, integrating new techniques, with a better usage of lighting as an element of urban, social and environmental development.
HEADQUARTERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF LIGHTING
Lyon is the president of the association “Lighting Urban Community International” (LUCI) since its founding in 2001. Some cities from all over the world gather regularly on the theme of cooperation with urban lighting professionals and for the promotion of light as a perfect means to enhance urban sites and developments.
INTERNATIONAL EVENTS IN LYON
ILW- International light Week, the greater professional event of light in France (300 exhibitors and 14.000 visitors) gathers 2 trade shows:
- LumiVille: International trade show for public lighting, outdoor lighting and illuminations
- ForumLED: International conferences and expo for the LED market and technologies.
CONTEXT OF ITS CREATION: THE ORIGIN AND HIS FOUNDERS
On the initiative of the CCI Lyon, a founder group, constituted by PHILIPS, by Comptoir Lyonnais d’Electricité (Group SONEPAR), by ENTPE and CDO (organizer of the show LumiVille) decided to establish a cluster in order to federate and develop know how in lighting sector in Rhône-Alpes.
