Cluster Lumière

Research & Innovation

Resulting from the “Grappe d’entreprise” label awarded by the French government in 2010, the Cluster Lumière’s Research & Innovation programme aims to bring together manufacturers, design offices and laboratories to bring mature, higher-quality products to market. Several services are offered :

Technological and regulatory watch

A weekly technology watch service, on the Myclusterlumiere.com platform, including :

  • Technologies (from LED chips to lighting systems)
  • Innovative designs, new products
  • Markets
  • Regulations / certification / standardisation
  • Funding mechanisms
  • Calls for projects (France, Europe), international public contracts

Research & innovation meetings, workshops and think tanks

The Research & Innovation programme is organising a range of events to help companies make the transition to the breakthrough technology of LED lighting and encourage exchanges between laboratories and manufacturers.

  • The RESEARCH AND INNOVATION MEETINGS take place once a year. It’s a day dedicated to research and innovation for members and lighting professionals around the network’s laboratories, research centres and universities.
  • TECHNO WORKSHOPS are technical and technological meetings (for up to 40 people) to tackle a complex technical subject. One or more experts present and share their knowledge, followed by an open discussion with all participants to explore their own experiences and questions.

Topics covered: optics, control, heat, assembly, choice of LEDs, colour rendering, eco-design, human perception, photometry, waterproofing of LEDs, sensors and lighting management, luminaire design, simulation, etc…

  • The THINK TANKs help to generate new working or research groups on lighting-related issues. Regularly organised with partners from the Rhône-Alpes region, they are a way of bringing together the views and needs of different sectors in order to find innovative solutions and make progress in lighting research.

Topics already covered: tunnels – CETU, textiles – TECHTERA, transport – LUTB, piloting – GRANDS ATELIERS, environment, etc.

Pooling and developing laboratory measurement and testing resources

The Light Cluster programme brings together laboratories with measurement and testing equipment, particularly for LED lighting. In this way, the Cluster makes the most of the resources available in the laboratories and gives SMEs easier access to this cutting-edge equipment.
